Wing Washington News - April, 2008

Finally some good weather is coming up, and you might be ready to go get some Wing Washington sites.  (I know I am.)  Hope you have a good time!

Site updates

16 - Healing Waters

The address given, 272 Main Ave W, is wrong.  It should read 272 Main Ave E.  (And even then, this could be a little bit off.  The actual site does not have an "official" address; I would be open to corrections.)

20 - Fondarellis Smokehouse

The address given is correct; however, the establishment is in the process of changing names to "Fondarellis Smokehouse", and that sign is not yet up.  The current sign reads "Crossroads Grill", which of course is acceptable, while the new sign is being put up, hopefully before the end of summer.

Lime Run to have Wing Washington site

Our friends in the Skagit Valley Wings are having their Lime Run on Sunday, April 27th.  They’ll be meeting at the Burlington Eagles, 119 N Cherry St, in Burlington, with Registration going from 8:00 to 10:00.  $10 per person, and 100% of the registration fee goes to Make-A-Wish.  There is a $7.00 BBQ from 12:00 to 2:30 at the Camping World in Burlington afterward.  Awards and raffle drawings at closing ceremonies at 3:00 PM.  AND, they will have their own suggestion for the “Do It Yourself” site as part of the run!

Do It Yourself Pictures

Another idea I have is to put up some of your ideas for the “Do It Yourself” theme.  I’ll keep the icon on the pictures page, but it will take you to submissions you make.  Sound like a deal?  I look forward to getting your submissions!

Time to sign up

We have had over 100 folks sign up for Wing Washington, and that’s great!  But we’re still looking to share the road (and Wing Washington sites) with more.  If you haven’t signed up yet, visit the web page at http://www.lakewashingtongold.com/WingWa/, and see what you’re missing.  We’d love to have you and your friends come and be part of the fun.

Thanks in advance for all your help.  We look forward to seeing you on the road getting Wing Washington sites in 2008!

 GPS Waypoints file available

Another new idea we have for Wing Washington 08 is to provide the list of sites to folks in a GPS-usable file.  We’re happy to save you the time (an hour or two?) it takes to figure out the sites and create Waypoints.  If you’re registered, just send me an email (jerry@weltner.net) and I’ll get you the files.  (Don’t we take care of you? ☺)

Check out the Pictures Page on the Wing Washington Web Site

Pictures of most of the sites are up on the Wing Washington Web site.  http://www.lakewashingtongold.com/WingWa/Pictures.htm You can get a sneak-peek at where you’ll be going.  Yes, not all of them are there.  You be the first to get me a picture of one that’s not up there, and your picture goes on the web site!

bulletProceeds to benefit Eastside Domestic Violence Program

Chapter E has decided to donate the majority of proceeds from Wing Washington 2008 (a minimum of $500) to the Eastside Domestic Violence Program. From humble beginnings in 1981, Eastside Domestic Violence Program (EDVP) has grown to become the largest provider of services for domestic violence victims in Washington. A support group for battered women and two volunteer safe homes were the first services offered, followed a year later by a 24-hour crisis line. Today, in addition to the crisis line, EDVP operates two confidential shelters, offers additional safe housing in the community, runs support groups for women and children, provides extensive community education and trainings, and advocates on behalf of victims. The Lake Washington Gold, GWTA Chapter E, are happy to work with EDVP.

bulletPre-register for Wing Washington 2008, get a chance to win $25!

The themes for 2008 include Eclectic Washington, Small Town Barbers, Steeple Chase (in co-operation with the Destiny Riders of CMA in Tacoma), Do It Yourself, and BBQ Restaurants. Bonus sites for 2008 will include 12 State Parks around the edge of Washington. (Another difference for 2008 is that there will be no date-specific sites, so you’ll have all year long to get all the sites you can!) Check out http://www.lakewashingtongold.com/WingWa/Files/WWFlyer2008.pdf  for the registration form. By pre-registering, you’ll be first in line to get the new site list, which will be distributed on January 1st. Also, some lucky winner will earn $25 (enough to cover the cost of Wing Washington!), to be selected at random from one of those who pre-register before January 1st.

Thanks in advance for all your help. We look forward to seeing you on the road getting Wing Washington sites in 2008!

bulletThanks for doing Wing Washington 07!

I hope everyone has enjoyed doing Wing Washington 07! Thank-you very much for your participation! From our survey distributed at the Banquet, we found that 87% thought it was a good time, and about that many plan to register for 08! Among the most-liked aspects of Wing Washington 07 were the Banquet, the number and sites themselves, and our site updates. We love to hear from folks about how the program is working, and love to hear your ideas for improvements, too. Again, THANK-YOU for your interest, and we look forward to working with you again in 2008!

bulletDo-It-Yourself Theme for Wing Washington 2008

One of the big and fun changes for 2008 is that we will be allowing you to show us what you think will make a great Wing Washington theme! Over the years we’ve heard all kinds of ideas, and we’ve tried to incorporate as many as we can. But we still hear from folks who keep telling us we need to do A, B or C as themes. Now you can show us what you want! New for 2008 will be a D-I-Y (Do It Yourself) theme, where you can choose what you think would make great theme ideas. For some more ideas on how this might work for you, check out our short description on the web site: http://www.lakewashingtongold.com/WingWa/DIY-Theme.htm . Already we’ve heard of some groups chasing wineries, D-I-Y shops, Train Stations, Ferries, Marinas, and even (I’m not kidding) Nudist Camps. What sites and themes will you be chasing for 2008?

Thanks in advance for all your help. We look forward to seeing you on the road getting Wing Washington sites in 2008!
